Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What’s the difference between Essex and Essex Junction?
A: The Town of Essex incorporates all of Essex Junction (ZIP: 05452). The Town of Essex operates Essex Parks and Recreation, which is located at 81 Main Street. Within the Town of Essex is the four-square mile Village of Essex Junction. The Village of Essex Junction is a part of the Town of Essex and pays taxes to the Town, but the Village also has its own government and recreation department and taxes Village residents to support these things. People who live in the Town of Essex outside of the Village only pay one set of taxes, support only the Town Parks & Rec Department, and therefore are non-residents. If you have an 05452 zip code and aren’t sure where you live, tell us what street you live on and we can tell you if you live in the Village or Town outside the Village.

Q: Help! I can’t remember my username and/or password to register for programs using WebTrac.
A: Not a problem! Call our office between 8 am and 4:30 pm Monday-Friday and we will email your account information to you.

Q: Are you hiring?
A: We might be. Check our Employment page to learn more.

Q: Why did a program get canceled?
A: Maybe we didn’t have enough people registered, maybe the instructor had to cancel, maybe a facility conflict came up...there are a variety of reasons programs may get canceled. But please don’t let that keep you from signing up!  If a program has not met the minimum enrollment requirement one week prior to the first class, it will be canceled.

Q: How do refunds work?
A: For a refund, EPR must be notified one week before the start date of the program. For cancellations less than one week before the start date of the program a refund is only issued if a) the program is full, b) there is a waitlist, and c) your cancellation opens up a spot that we can fill from the waitlist. If a refund is distributed, a $5.00 administration fee will be assessed. You can either receive a credit to your account or a refund in the same method you paid.

Note: Some programs (e.g. Bolton Ski Program, Fall Soccer, Lacrosse, Town of Essex Swim Team, etc.) have different notification requirements and/or refund policies noted in the program description. Please consult with a staff member for more information regarding these programs.

Q: A program I want to sign up for is full. What are my chances of getting in on the waitlist?
A: We always encourage people to put their names on the waitlist, there’s no cost and you never know what will happen! Sometimes people get sick, go on vacation, or overbook their schedules and need to drop out. Also, this tells us if there are more people interested than we can accommodate and we are sometimes able to add a session or increase the capacity.
