Forest Management Plans (FMPs) for Indian Brook and Saxon Hill have been officially approved, and the Town has begun planning their implementation. The FMPs have been developed to enhance forest health, increase biodiversity, and promote recreation and are not focused on timber production.
At Indian Brook, the county forester, in partnership with the Town of Essex, has started flagging plots for logging, which may begin as early as winter of 2026-2027.
At Saxon Hill, the Town is working alongside Fellowship of the Wheel to coordinate implementation efforts, with logging anticipated to begin as early as winter of 2025-2026.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the Forest Management Plans at either location, please contact Harlan Smith, Assistant Director of Parks, Trails, and Open Spaces, at hsmith@essex.org.
