[ARCHIVED] LDS Church Stormwater Project

LDS Church Stormwater Project

The Town of Essex will be retrofitting two existing detention stormwater ponds at the LDS Church off Essex Way as part of the Town’s Flow Restoration Plan for Indian Brook and Phosphorus Control Plan. There are two detention ponds on the property - the North System and South System. The North System will be retrofitted into an underground storage chamber and the South System will be retrofitted into an underground sand filter in order to receive additional phosphorus removal. Stormwater infrastructure will be modified to take in additional stormwater from Essex Way, Lang Farm, and the Essex Resort & Spa. This project will manage 46.2% of the high flow reduction target for Indian Brook and reduce phosphorus loading to the Malletts Bay watershed. The project was awarded to Don Weston Excavating and will be funded by grants, including a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Community Formula Grant in the amount of $488,553 from the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources through the Department of Environmental Conservation’s Clean Water Initiative Program.

Construction is expected to last through the summer. Trees will be planted as part of the project. For more information and to sign up to receive updates on the project, visit the Town’s website. Please contact the Town’s Public Works Department at 802-878-1344 with any questions.
