Out & About in Essex began in 2020 originally as, "Open & Outside". The Village of Essex Junction hosted an event to encourage people to shop and eat in Essex Junction to support struggling businesses during the pandemic. Weeks later, the Town of Essex and the Village of Essex Junction received grant funds from Restart Vermont and held a follow-up event renamed to "Out & About in Essex".
The effort paid off. The grant funds were spent primarily on "gift vouchers" given to Essex residents to shop locally during the event weekend. Stores and restaurants that were seeing very little foot traffic in previous months were suddenly opening their doors to hundreds of customers during the weekend. Entertainers were set up on stages throughout the community and people brought their chairs and masks, ordered some take out and sat for a spell to enjoy some beautiful fall weather.
The Out & About event was a hit and residents cried for more. The Village of Essex Junction and the Town of Essex are happy to host a second annual Out & About in Essex event on October 2 & 3, 2021. However, without grant funding this time, the event is in need of sponsors. Please contact the Out & About committee if your organization, group or business is interested in lending support to this community-wide event. The committee is interested in:
- Financial sponsors - Provide direct funding to Out & About to assist with funding the entertainers and activities.
- Media sponsors - Help to secure advertising for the event by either purchasing advertising space on local television, newspaper, or publishing content about the event on your own channels, stations and papers.
- In-kind sponsors - Are you part of a group or organization that is interested in helping out with set up or clean up? Would you like to donate bottles of water for our volunteers and entertainers? Does your organization have equipment such as tables, chairs, stages, etc. that could be borrowed for the weekend?
Yes! I want to become a sponsor!
