Australian Ballot - Polling place and hours: Vote at Essex Middle School, 60 Founders Road in Essex, Tuesday, March 7, 2023, 7 AM to 7 PM.
Voter Registration: If you are not already registered in Essex, you may print and fill out this application and either mail the completed form to 81 Main Street or leave in the drop box at the entrance of the Town Office. Be sure to allow for mail time, otherwise you can register in person. New Vermont residents must provide proof of residence (see instructions on form). You can also register online or at the polling place for same day registration. All that is required for voter registration is your VT driver’s license number, or if you do not have a VT driver’s license, the last four digits of your social security number.
Early/Absentee Ballots Requests and Deadline: Ballots will be available by February 15, 2023. Request your ballot at the Essex Town Clerk’s office, 81 Main Street, Essex Jct., VT, call 879-0413 option 6, or email email@example.com. Early/Absentee ballots may also be requested online at https://mvp.vermont.gov/. If requesting ballots to be mailed, request in advance to allow for ballots to be returned to the clerk’s office no later than 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2023. Ballots returned on Tuesday, March 7th must be delivered directly to the polling place (Essex Middle School). Early voting ends Monday, March 6, 2023.
Voting instructions: Enter polls to check-in table, state name and street address, receive ballot, proceed and enter voting booth, mark your ballot in the voting booth (if you tear, deface of wrongly mark your ballot, return it to the election worker to receive another ballot), proceed to the ballot tabulator, cast ballot, exit polling area.
Secure ballot box: A secure ballot box is available at the Town Offices for returning ballots after hours or on weekends up until the morning of March 7.
Problems at the Polls: Anyone needing assistance with voting or help with a problem at the polls should seek the assistance of the Presiding Officer or election officials.
Campaigning During Polling Hours: No candidate or other person may physically interfere with the progress of a voter to and from the polling place. No campaign advertisement may be displayed, placed, handed out or allowed to remain within the building containing a polling place. An election official or other person may not campaign, solicit voter or distribute campaign materials in the building containing a polling place.
BALLOTS WILL NOT BE MAILED TO ACTIVE VOTERS.
The Town of Essex will NOT be mailing ballots to active, registered voters for the 2023 Town Meeting election unless a voter asks to receive an early ballot by mail. You may either request an absentee/early voting ballot (postage will be included), or you may vote in person.
