The Winooski Valley Park District provides residents in the Chittenden County area with large natural areas for outdoor recreation and education. It is a public, non-profit corporation that was charted in 1972. It is funded by its member communities, membership dues, grants and private donation. The Park District's goals are to acquire and manage open space, wildlife habitat, and natural areas. Their Colchester Pond site connects to Essex's Indian Brook Conservation Area.
